چکیده

One of the most important aspects in playing the piano is using the appropriate fingers to facilitate movement and transitions. The fingering arrangement depends to a certain extent on the size of the musician’s hand. We have developed an automatic fingering system that, given a sequence of pitches, suggests which fingers should be used. The output can be personalized to agree with the limitations of the user’s hand. We also consider this system to be the base of a more complex future system: a score reduction system that will reduce orchestra scores to piano scores. This paper describes: • “Vertical cost” model: the stretch induced by a given hand position. • “Horizontal cost” model: transition between two hand positions. • A system that computes low-cost fingering for a given piece of music. • A machine learning technique used to learn the appropriate parameters in the models.

A Computer Vision Based Prototype for Automatic Guitarist Fingering Retrieval

This article presents a method to visually detect and recognize fingering gestures of the left hand of a guitarist. The choice of computer vision to perform that task is motivated by the absence of a satisfying method for realtime guitarist fingering detection. The development of this computer vision method follows preliminary manual and automated analyses of video recordings of a guitarist. Th...

Automatic Decision of Piano Fingering Based on a Hidden Markov Models

This paper proposes a Hidden Markov Model (HMM)-based algorithm for automatic decision of piano fingering. We represent the positions and forms of hands and fingers as HMM states and model the resulted sequence of performed notes as emissions associated with HMM transitions. Optimal fingering decision is thus formulated as Viterbi search to find the most likely sequence of state transitions. Th...

Articulatory feature based continuous speech recognition using probabilistic lexical modeling

Phonological studies suggest that the typical subword units such as phones or phonemes used in automatic speech recognition systems can be decomposed into a set of features based on the articulators used to produce the sound. Most of the current approaches to integrate articulatory feature (AF) representations into an automatic speech recognition (ASR) system are based on deterministic knowledg...

Automatic Music Transcription using Audio-Visual Fusion for Violin Practice in Home Environment

Violin practice in a home environment, where there is often no teacher available, can benefit from automatic music transcription to provide feedback to the student. This paper describes a high performance violin transcription system with three main contributions. First, as onset detection is an important but challenging task for automatic transcription of pitched non-percussive music, such as f...

Driver Response to Active Front Steer and Power-Assist Failures

Active Front Steer (AFS) has the ability to apply varying road wheel angles for the same steering wheel angle, depending on the speed of the vehicle. It achieves this by changing the steering gain dynamically and can be a useful driver aid: less steering wheel input is required at low speeds than a more traditional fixedgain steering system to achieve the same radius of turn. Should an AFS syst...
